Obsidian

How do I append highlights to an existing Obsidian note instead of creating a new one?

Short answer

Clippers create a new note unless a template says otherwise. In Obsidian Web Clipper, set the template behaviour to append to an existing note. In Lumen, point a collection at the note and pick that collection in the extension; every new highlight is appended there automatically.

Step by step

  1. Web Clipper: Settings, Templates, Behaviour: Add to existing note (bottom), and type the note name.
  2. Lumen: add an Obsidian destination with the note path, point a collection at it, and select it in the popup.

Good to know

Appending is only half of the problem: re-clipping the same page appends every highlight again. Lumen records which highlights each note already has and sends only new ones.

Can I switch target notes mid session?

Yes, change the collection in the extension popup; the next highlight goes to the new note.
